your ans
if we go through the electronic configuration on sodium which has atomic number 11
so
electronic configuration:- 2,8,1
now to acquire stability it needs to loose one electron and when it looses one electron it becomes stable hence this loosing of one electron makes sodium monovalent

hi mate
hope this help you
Electronic configuration of sodium(Na)
= 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s1
Sodium has 1 electron in its outer most shell and to acquire noble gas configuration it will lose one electron and hence sodium is monovalent
