Sodium is a monovalent cation because the charge of sodium is +1 that is (Na+ion). In physically sodium is a metal . It belongs to first group of the element of the periodic table. These groups of element are also known as alkali elements because they produces or they prepare a strong bases like sodium hydroxide.
