embryo is attached to the mother's uterus (womb) by placenta, layer formed by tissues of both mother's uterus and embryo. placenta is continuous with umbilical cord (contains blood vessels of foetus) which is attached and enter foetus at navel. the blood vessels of umbilical cord join foetal veins inside. placenta forms a barrier between mothers and foetal blood allowing only nutrients, gases(oxygen & co2) and anti bodies. all these substances enter foetal circulation through umbilical cord

The embryo get nourishment from the mother's body through Placenta.
In the Placenta, the foetal blood comes in close contact with the maternal blood.
Here, exchange of material between the Mother's blood & the foetal blood take place.
