explain how the energy is conserved in the case of an oscillating simple pendulum. Is there any similarity between the energy transformation in the oscillations of a pendulum and a roller coaster ride ?

Explanation:

A pendulum converts kinectic energy (which is generated due to momentum) into potential energy as it reaches upto its maximum height on one side... which in turn is again converted back to kinetic enegry influenced by gravitational force. This keeps the pendulum moving continuously unless an unbalanced force acts on it. Rollercoaster ride works on similar principle.
