  • Energy can be transferred between the geosphere and the atmosphere by conduction, as Figure 6 shows. When Earth's surface is warmer than the atmosphere, the ground will transfer energy to the atmosphere. When air comes into direct contact with the warm surface of Earth, energy is passed to the atmosphere by conduction.

  • At the end of this lesson, you will be able to explain that the Earth consists of four subsystems, across whose boundaries matter and energy flow. The four subsystems of the Earth are the atmosphere, geosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere.

Flow of matter and energy on the earth is one waysystem that start with sun and ultimately ends in same.

Explanation:

  • Flow of energy in environment works through Lindeman's 10% law where percentage of energy gets reduced at a level of 10% in every stage starting from producer to consumer and decomposer. At the first stage producer the green plants are found with herbivores in second and carnivores in third trophic level and omnivores in highest trophic level.
