The British landed a huge tax over the khalifa that is a Turkish ruler this infuriated the indian muslims. as they wanted khalifa to rule over the Muslim pilgrimage places but the British did not allowed it as a result shaukat ali and Muhammad ali with their followers revolted against the the british. Gandhi ji also supported their ideas he said that the Punjab wrong are needed to be rectified.
