Requirements of irrigation depends on the nature of crops :-
e.g. Paddy (rice) needs more water than wheat whereas they are of diff. types I.e. one is rabi crop and other is kharif crop

Each crop is grown in a different type of soil.
For example, crops grown in sandy soil need more amounts of water since the water retaining capacity of this soil is low.
On the other hand, crops grown in clayey soil require lesser water.
