After sometime a messenger told him that the red-faced dealer was ready to give fifty guineas and buy the picture. The narrator would have been happy even to receive fifty farthings, because he was saved from dishonour. But the narrator asked for a hundred guineas and he got. Thus he exhibited his guile (trick, cheating)
