In the poem, The Professor, the theme of defeat of academic excellence and triumph of commercial considerations, The nouveau rich society to which professor belongs,believes that economic success is the right parameter of human achievement.their standard of excellence is judged by the event of jobs and wealth
He boasts about the lucrative jobs of his sons instead of their academic excellence. He repents his son although he is doing well but has not come to that level of his brothers. He even calls him a black sheep in the family.
