But during the Post-Vedic period Varna came to be determined by birth. Consequently, the whole society was divided into four Varnas- Brahman, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudra. Out of these four Vamas, the Brahmans occupied the supreme position and enjoyed more rights.
