it mainly contains the red coloured pigment called HAEMOGLOBIN . which performs the function of transportation of respiratory gases.

in order to carry more amount of respiratory gases , the RBC looses its nucleus at the maturity .

majority of the matured RBC s are enucleated ,EXCEPT IN CAMEL.

in humans 97% of oxygen is carried by RBC.

                 20-25% carbondioxide is carried by RBC.
