The tendency to lose electron remains the same down a group because all the elements in the same group have same number of valence electrons in their last shell and hence have same valency.
Along a period the tendency to lose electron decreases because the metallic character along a group feom left to right decreases.

In simple words
when we go down word then the radius of the atom increase thus it can easily loose outer most election.
when we go stright then due to intermolecular force of attraction the tendency to loose electron decreases
