Q- Explain how white light gets dispersed by a prism.
A- The refractive index of glass is different for different colours of light. When white light is incident on the surface of a prism, different amounts are deviated by different amounts as the deviation depends upon refractive index which is different for different colours. Of these, violet is deviated the most and red is deviated the least. Thus, all the colours come out of the prism from different points.
