HSAB concept:

  • This theory-based principle of soft and hard lewis acids and bases.
  • This theory is used for emphasising the stability of the compound, reaction between the compound and the mechanism.
  • As per this theory, Acids of hard nature combine with the base of hard nature to form complex compounds.
  • Similarly, Acids of soft nature combine with the base of soft nature.

         Lewis acid + Lewis base ⇌ acid-base product

  • For Example: CS - F + Li-I  \rightarrow CSI  + LiF
  • Where CsI is soft-soft combination and LiF is a hard hard combination.
  • Those reactions are favor which involves the formation of hard-hard and soft-soft compound.
