When we inhale fresh oxygen from the nose, the air goes through the nasal cavity into the trachea. The trachea branches into two tubes, each leading to one lung. Then the air goes through the tube as it branches into many branches. In the end it reaches spherical structures called alveoli which are lined with blood capillaries. These blood capillaries take in the oxygen in the alveoli and give out carbon dioxide into the alveoli. This carbon dioxide goes through the tubes and into the nasal cavity during exhalation.
