When the poet consigned his first conceived child to the blazes, then he sore to save fire from the transgression of forgetfulness. He is a Parsi by religion. A Parsi doesn't incinerate their dead body. In any case, he did it as his religious place to perform the rituals was quite far. The fire had failed to remember that he is a Parsi since it deals equally to everyone regardless of their caste, creed or religion. So he sore to save fire from the wrongdoing or the sin of forgetfulness.
