the poem is basically about the poet wanting her lover to love her only for love's sake only and not for any other particular reason . she assumes that he should not state the reason of his love to be because of her look,her smile or the way she gently speaks since these attributes though they bring a pleasant feeling for her,are sure to change or fade away over time and hence he will be left with no reason to love her.she then also tells her lover not to show love out of sympathy or pity by wiping her tears and comforting her when she is in a terrible situation since every creature been comforted for so long will soon forget to weep and hence will lose its love she assunes that if he loves her in this manner she will soon lose him since he will feel that she no longer needs him as she has stopped crying.the poet hence ends the poem by concluding that she wants her lover to lover for only the sake of love which only will last for eternity
