superstitions and evil practices which prevailed in society. Education helped
to make the people broadminded. It helped the people to think rationally. It
brought about reforms in society. As it aroused the Indian educated people like
Raja Ram Mohan Roy to introduce social reforms in India. The English language
provided a common medium of communication among people of different regions. It
helped to unite the people and to spread the ideas of nationalism through
various newspapers and journals. It helped the people of India to become
familiar with the culture of other countries and gain knowledge.
