History of ancient India was totally based on coins, inscriptions and monuments because these were the main sources to create the history of ancient India. Before Alexander’s invasion there was lack of written history but after Alexander’s invasion the condition changed. Alexander along with himself brought many historians and the siruation changed vice versa. We find many written evidences and many historical books.
During medieval India history was being documented properly and inscriptions, monuments and coins became supporting sources to testify the written historical details of medieval India. Such as vedas, puranas and upnishads were being documented and chinese scholars like Faihan, Hue en etsang and Al Baruni and many other historians give well written and documented accounts of Ancient Indian history and history of medieval India.
