there are mainly two types of defects : 1.stoichiometric defect i.e, which does not affect the stoichiometry of a crystal. for e.g. schottky defect, frenkel defect, etc
2. non-stoichiometric defect i.e, which affect the stoichiometry of a crystal by gain or loss in ions. for e.g. metal excess defect, metal deficit defect, etc.
