Direct Answer :-

It helps to fix the nitrogen for the plant to use.

Explanation :-

In biology, Symbiosis means living together. In symbiosis, two different types of organisms live and work together for their mutual benefit from each other. They share shelter and nutrients, e.g. Lichens, algae etc.

In our case, Rhizobium and leguminous plants have a symbiotic relationship. Leguminous plants provide food and shelter to the Rhizobium bacteria and the Rhizobium bacteria provides nitrogen to the plants.

Usefulness to farmers :-

Rhizobium bacteria lives inside the root nodules of leguminous plants. This bacteria converts atmospheric nitrogen into nitrites and nitrates that can be utilised by plants and so, it helps in nitrogen fixation.
