there r 4 quantum numbers.1st principle quantum number was proposed by neils bore, which represents orbit number.2nd angular momentum number or azimutal quantum number proposed byvsommer field, which represnts subshell and shape of thevsubshell. 3rd magnetic quantum number proposed by lande,represents orientation of orbit and 4th is spin quantum number proposed by ulhenbeck and goudsmith which explains about spin of electron.
