TOPIC:

=> Moving coil galvanometer.

DEFINITION:

=> it is an instrument used to measure electric current and also it is as sensitive electromagnetic device which is used to measure low current even of the order of microamperes.

PRINCIPLE:

=> A current carrying coil when placed in an external magnetic field experience magnetic torque. the angle to which the coil is deflected due to the effect of the magnetic torque is proportional to the magnitude of the current in the coil.

APPLICATIONS:

THE MOVING COIL GALVANOMETER IS A HIGHLY SENSITIVE INSTRUMENT DUE TO WHICH CAN BE USED TO DETECT THE PRESENCE OF CURRENT IN ANY GIVEN CIRCUIT,

THE APPLICATIONS OF GALVANOMETER ARE

  • THE VALUE OF CURRENT IN THE CIRCUIT BY CONNECTING IT IN A PARALLEL TO LOW RESISTANCE
  • THE VOLTAGE BY CONNECTING IT IN SERIES HIGH RESISTANCE

ADVANTAGES:

  • it is highly sensitive
  • it is not easily affected by stay magnetic fields
  • the torque you to weight ratio is high
  • it has high accuracy and reliability

DISADVANTAGES:

  • it can be used only to measure direct current
  • it will develops error due to the factors like ageing of instrument and damage of spring due mechanical stress.

ALSO KNOW:

=> A galvanometer electro mechanical device used for measuring electric current and they were first used to detect a small amount of current.
