It was found that Ca(OCl)2 can decompose by at least three main routes. These include disproportionation to give Ca(ClO3)2 and CaCl2, and with the evolution of Cl2 or O2 depending on the presence or absence of water. At room temperature and in the absence of water HGBP appears to be stable.
