Through way of the act, customers are shielded from traders using deceptive pricing practises. They can charge additional price to what the commodity is to be paid or or use wrong means of selling the goods. Consumers may return faulty goods and get compensated for them

• In this important decision concerning educational institutions in the year 2005, the student was asked to pay a lump sum of INR 18,734 as a fee for coaching for a medical entrance exam coaching for the next two years . This was paid by the student in two full installments during the first six months of classes.
• The student eventually found, however, that the standard of the institutes was not very good and then sought a refund for the remaining time that the institute rejected.
• The student then approached consumer court against the coaching centre and sought compensation. The court passed the judgement in favour of the plaintiff (student) and, besides  and the in addition to the balance amount, compensation for legal expenses and distress  was awarded to the student

Delhi Development Authority v D.C. Sharma

• Here, DC Sharma (the respondent), a govt. official had paid an initial amount for allocation of a plot of INR 5 lakhs in the year 1997, by the DDA (Delhi Development Authority.
• He applied for more time for payment because he wished to make use of the credit facilities from the office. However, the plot that was allotted to him by way of a draw of lots was allotted to another person.
• Accordingly, the appeal was accepted. DDA  had to refund all Rs.30,000/- that it had received it and was asked to provide the DC Sharma another flat of the same description. Where there is no flat available, the DDA shall pay the appellant INR 30,00,000/- as compensation
