Normality :- no of gram equivalent of solute present in 1 L of a solution .

first of all , what is gram - equivalent ??

gram-equivalent :- it is the ratio of given weight of substance and equivalent weight .
example :- what is the gram equivalent of 2.7 g of aluminum .??

gram equivalent = given weight/ equivalent wt

we know, equivalent wt = molecular wt/n-factor
for Al equivalent wt = 27/3 = 9 g

now , gram equivalent = 2.7/9 = 0.3

================================
Normality = no of gram equivalent of solute per unit volume of solution .
so,
N = gram equivalents/V( L)
= (Ws/Es)/V( L)

= Ws × 1000/(M/n) × V(ml)

=n× Ws× 1000/M × V(ml)

we know, ws/M = no of mole
we also know , no of mole per unit volume = molarity

so,
Normality = n× molarity
e.g N = n× M

example :- a solution of H2SO4 which molarity is 2M then what is Normality ??
Normility = n × M

we know ,
n - factor of H2SO4 is 2 then .
Normality = 2×2 = 4 N
