Four organs of excretory system are as follows:
1) Kidney:
- It is the main organ for filtration of blood and formation of urine.
- The structural and functional units of the kidneys are the nephrons.
- There are almost 3 million nephrons in the two kidneys.
- The renal arteries provide blood to the kidney , the nephrons filter them and urine is sent to the ureters.
2) Ureters:
- Ureters are a pair of thin walled, muscular tubes extending from the kidney to the urinary bladder.
- Their main function is to transport the urine from the kidney to the urinary bladder.
3) Urinary bladder:
- The urinary bladder is a large pouch present in the pelvic cavity
- It is responsible for temporary storage of the urine before getting it excreted.
- The average volume of urine stored in each cycle is around 200 ml.
4) Urethra:
- This part of the excretory system is involved in carrying the urine from the urinary bladder to outside via the penis.
