AN OPERATING SYSTEM IS THE USER INTERFACE (U.I) ON WHICH PEOPLE LIKE ME AND YOU CAN INTERACT WITH THE SYSTEM.

ALSO IT TAKES DOWN MANY USEFUL OPERATIONS LIKE THE USE OF THE DIFFERENT COMPONENTS OF THE COMPUTER, LIKE THE MOTHERBOARD AND THE KERNEL.

WITHOUT THE U.I OR THE OPERATING SYSTEM THE USER WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO INTERACT WITH THE COMPUTER.
