Explain in your own words why you would use division to change a smaller unit to a bigger one. What would happen if you multiplied instead? How would you know that you are wrong?

First we have to see a simple example:-Convert 100m=___cm

Here,we know that meter is greater than the cm and we have to convert m in cm so we have to break down m in terms of cm.WKT, 1m=10^2cm( as m is greater than cm). Now coming to question 100 m=100(10^2 cm)=10^4cm.Now we concluded that going from larger unit to smaller unit we need to multiply as to maintain the equality of units.

Thanks
