Inspiration:

✍️Taking in the air is inspiration.

✍️It is affected by the relaxation of the dorsal ventral muscles and ventral longitudinal muscles .

✍️Due to the relaxation of dorsiventral muscles and plates are elevated and the volume of body cavity increases .

✍️Due to the relaxation of ventral longitudinal muscles the telescope what muscles came to the normal position show the volume of body cavity increases in the longitudinal axis and air enters in due to the relaxation of muscles it is a passive process during inspiration thoracic spiracles are kept open and abdominal spiracles are closed .

Expiration:

✍️Sending out air from the body cavity is called expiration .

✍️On contraction of dorsiventral muscles ventral longitudinal muscles of the body cavity decreases and the pressure increases this process is an active process as the muscle contraction takes place during expiration thoracic spiracles are closed and abdominal spiracles are kept open .

There are ten pairs of slit-like openings present in the spiracles which are situated on the either side of the body wall. The mechanism of inspiration and expiration are the same, oxygen is diffused into the tissue cells and carbon dioxide are expelled out through a thin cuticle layer from the body wall
