alcohols do not react with any carbonate or bicarbonate while carboxylic acid reacts with bicarbonate as well as carbonate the reaction is as follows:

CH3COOH+NaHCO3 gives CH3COONa CO2 +H20

CH3CH2OH+NaHCO3 gives no reaction
