Jhum cultivation is also called as 'Slash and Burn agriculture' and 'Shifting cultivation' practiced in Northeast region of India.

An area in the forest is cleared and the remaining vegetation is burned after some time the ashes ( it adds potash to the soil) produced are mixed with the soil and the seeds are sown after rains.
