Posteriorly the costovertebral joint of the 1st rib has a single facet, which increases the mobility at that joint in a posterior direction. During inspiration the costovertebral joint moves superiorly and posteriorly, elevating the first rib. Upper thorax. Coronal axis at vertebrae. Costocartilage rotates upward.
