Kirchhoff has given two important rules that explains the conservation of the energy and the electric charge and these are called the kirchhoff's laws.
- Kirchhoff's First law or the junction law: it describes the algebraic sum of all the electric current at any junction of the electric circuit and is equal to the zero. It shows the conservation of the charge in the circuit.
- Kirchhoff's Second law or the voltage : It tell about the algebraic sum of the emfs of cell and the product of the current and the resistance is equal to the zero.
