. In lanthanides the atomic radii decreases with increase in tye atomic number in a regular manner due to the poor shielding capacity of f - electrons .

. this is known as lanthanide contraction

Lanthanide contraction is referred as the result of the poor shielding effect of 4f electron.

Shielding effect is known as a phenomenon by which inner-shell shields outer-shell electrons so that they are not affected by the nuclear charge.
