The characteristic amount of energy absorbed or released by a substance during a change in its physical state that occurs without changing its temperature is known as latent heat. The two types of latent heat are Latent heat of fusion and latent heat of vapourization. hope this helps you.

Latent is a latin word which means "hidden".

Latent heat = amount of heat required to change the state of any substance.

It has 2 types:

1)   Latent of Fusion: Amount of heat required to change the state of any            substance from solid to liquid.

2)  LT of vaporization: Amount of heat required to change the state of any substance from liquid to gas.
