1) the English scientist John newlands arranged elements known at time in an increasing order of their atomic masses

2) it started with the lighetest element hydrogen and ended up with thorium

3) he found that every eighth element had properties similar to those of the first

4) newlands compared this similarity with octets in music & he called the similarity oobserved in 1st and 8th element as law of octaves.

5) many limitations were found in newlands law of actaves . this law was found to be applicable only up to calcium.
