Answer:
According to the Lenz's Law, the direction of the induced e.m.f. is such that it opposes the cause which produces it.
Explanation :
The Lenz's law is based on the law of conservation of energy. It shows that the mechanical energy is spent in doing work against the opposing force experienced by the moving magnet and it is transformed into the electrical energy due to which the current flows in the solenoid.

Conservation of energy is followed as mechanical energy is converted into e.m.f
Explanation:
- Lenz's law states that the cause behind the induction of induced e.m.f (electromotive force) is opposed that is the change in magnetic flux is opposed which is given by the negative sign
- Conservation of energy is followed as when we change the magnetic flux that is by changing the position of bar magnet or coil an alternative e.m.f set up in the coil and opposite magnetic pole is induced near the end of magnet hence it opposes the movement
- when north pole of magnet is moved towards the coil there is induction of north pole on near end and it opposes the movement, when the same magnet is moved away from the coil current changes its direction hence south pole is assumed to be induced there not magnet being attracted by the coil thus again movement is opposed
- Similarly we can explain on the basis of south pole
