Three processes are essential for the transfer of oxygen from the outside air to the blood flowing through the lungs: ventilation, diffusion, and perfusion. Ventilation is the process by which air moves in and out of the lungs.

Answer:the rib moves upward and outward during inspiration. Also, the diaphragm flattens therefore increasing the surface area of the lungs. During expiration the rib cage moves inward and downward. Also the diaphragm gains back it's dome shape reducing the surface area

Explanation: When the surface area in the lungs increases, the pressure goes below the atmospheric pressure therefore causing air to rush onto the lungs and vice versa
