The major determiners of the climate are :
(a) Latitude : The temperature decreases from the equator 11 towards the poles. Places located on low latitudes are
hotter than the places on higher latitudes. Solar energy I is more in lower latitudes.

(b) Altitude : At higher altitudes the atmosphere becomes less dense and temperature decreases. Hills are cooler during summers, e. g., Simla is cooler than Delhi.

(c) Distance from the sea : Sea has moderating influence on the climate. As the distance from the sea increases, its moderating influence decreases and extreme weather conditions are experienced, i. e. , very hot in summer and very cold in winter, e. g., Delhi is very hot in summer and very cold in winter.

(d) Ocean Currents : Ocean currents along with onshore winds affect the climate of the coastal regions. Any coastal area with warm or cold currents flowing past it will be cooled or warmed if the winds are on-shore.

(e) Relief : Plays a major role in determining the climate of a place. Tugh mountains act as baruer for hot and cold winds. They may also cause precipitation, if they are very tugh and he in the path of rain bearing winds. The backward side of the mountains are dry.
