Anything which has mass and occupies space is called matter. It may be solid, liquid or gas.

Types of Matter

It is of two types :

1. Pure Substance

2. Impure substance

1. The matter around us is not pure. As a pure substance comprises of only a single substance. But the matter around is a mixture of many components hence matter around us is not pure.

2. A solution is a homogenous mixture comprising two or more components. In a solution the substance dissolved is the solute and the medium in which the solute is dissolved is called solvent.

3. Colloidal solution: The solution mixture in which one of the particles of the solution are dispersed through another substance.
