Because sound needs a medium in which particles are present but in vaccum no particles are present so,sound cannot propogate through it.
Sound requires a medium to travel. This medium include different states of matter like solids liquids and gases. So sound can travel through a solid, liquid and a gas but not through the vacuum( no medium).
