In fact, an alpha particle really is a nucleus - it's the same as the nucleus of a common atom of helium - but it doesn't have any electrons around it, and it's traveling very fast. Alpha particles are a type of ionizing radiation. To describe the production of alpha particles, we have to define radioactive decay.

Alpha ray scattering experiment was carried out by Rutherford.

In this experiment a beam of alpha particles is aimed at a thin gold foil.

it was observed that 99% of the alpha particles passed straight through the gold foil indicating empty space between atoms. 1/200th particle got deflected back indicating that some positive charge is present deep inside the atom.

This is how nucleus was discovered.
