Direct speech and indirect speech are ways to talk about what other people say. Direct speech is when you just quote exactly what they said, like :
She said "I hate vanilla, you should give me chocolate".
Indirect speech is when you report what they said from your point of view, like :
She said that she hated vanilla and that I should give her chocolate.
She said "I hate vanilla, you should give me chocolate".
Indirect speech is when you report what they said from your point of view, like :
She said that she hated vanilla and that I should give her chocolate.

Direct Speech: repeats , or quotes, the exact words spoken . when we use direct speech in writing , we place the words spoken between inverted commas ("") and there is no change in these words ..
Indirect speech : reported and indirect speech is usually used to talk about past, so we not normally change the tense of the word spoken . we use reporting verb like says 'say', 'tell', 'ask', and we may use the word 'that' to introduce the reported words . Inverted commas is not used..
