Tongue Grafting :

This method is commonly usedwhen the stock and scion are of equal diameter. First,a long, smooth, slanting cut of about 4 to 5 cm long ismade on the rootstock. Another downward cut is givenstarting approximately 1/3rd from the top and about2 centimeter in length. Similar cuts are made in thescion wood exactly matching the cut given in therootstock. The scion having 2 to 3 buds is then tightlyfitted with the rootstock taking care that the cambiumlayer of at least one side of the stock and scion unitestogether. This is then wrapped tightly with polythenestrip.

Answer:

Explanation:

It is a term used in grafting of plants. For the whip and tongue graft, similar cuts are made on the stock and scion. These are made with a single draw of the knife and have a smooth surface so the two can develop a good graft union.

A top graft used to make weeping cherry trees is a good example of a common whip-and-tongue graft.
