Answer:
Colonialism Comes from the word colony. So what's a colony. A colony is defined as a state, country or province under the rule or control of another country. the defining factors of such a control are
- It is against the wishes of natives
- it generally results in exploitation of the colony ( economic exploitation, political exploitation, exploitation of the manpower etc.)
- the citizens of the colony have lesser or no rights
Now that we know what is a colony let's see what is colonialism.
In the fifteenth sixteenth century, with growing Naval power, the Western Europe countries started establishing trade relations with the rest of the world mainly Asia and Africa. To secure favourable trade relations at they started to manipulate the political system in these countries. one thing lead to another and the manipulations started to become exercising control. finally these countries came under complete control of these European countries through a mix of economic, political and military measures. These Asian and African countries became colonies, the European countries became the colonizers and the phenomenon came to be known as Colonialism
