limiting reagent :-

The limiting reagent in a chemical reaction is the substance that is totally consumed when the chemical reaction is complete . The amount of product formed is limited by this reagent , since the reaction cannot be continue without it. If one or more other reagent are present in excess of the quantities required to react with the limiting reagent , then they are described excess reagent .

For example if 32 grams of CH4 is given to produce CO2 and Water and 32 gram of oxygen is given....then the oxygen will act as limiting reagent.
