our food digestion starts in our mouth...carbohydrates r digested in our mouth with help of an enzyme called salivary amylase or ptyalin.....now the food is partially digested and it is called bolus....it moves through buccal cavity,pharynx...and reaches stomach....proteins r digested and also fats....but food is completely digested in small intestine....and waste products r sent into large intestine

Answer: The digestive system of human body is designed to convert the the food into nutrients which the body uses for generating energy ,growth and repair of cell.

Mouth: The digestion of food stats as soon as we take it in our mouth.Chewing breaks the food into pieces and makes it simpler for digestion. When saliva mixes in the food then it is absorbed in the body.

Throat : From the mouth the food travels to stomach through esophagus.

Esophagus: It extends from pharynx to stomach It delivers food to stomach. Here the food is sent into stomach through movement called peristalsis ,this helps to push the food to stomach by the contraction and relaxation of muscles.

Stomach: The stomach is sac like structure .It mixes the food and stores it.It secretes acid and enzymes that continue the process of breaking down the food. When the food leaves the stomach it  is in the consistency of a liquid or paste.

Small Intestine: It is made up of three segments duodenum, jejunum, and ileum .It continues the process of breaking down food by action of enzymes released by pancreas and liver . Digestion of fat takes place by the action of bile released from liver. The duodenum is  responsible for continuing the process of breaking down food, with the jejunum and ileum are mainly responsible for the absorption of nutrients into the bloodstream.

Large intestine:It is 5-6 foot long and helps in removal of waste. The undigested material or stool is stored in the colon until it is passed on to the  rectum.

Rectum: The undigested waste are removed from the body through rectum.
