Explanation:

When carbon dioxide is dissolved in calcium hydroxide then calcium carbonate a white solid is formed along with water .

Please note that the milkiness of the solution is not due to the formation of calcium carbonate but due to the presence of suspensions of calcium hydroxide (known as milk of lime)

Now if you further add carbon dioxide then carbon dioxide reacts with water and calcium carbonate to form calcium hydrogen carbonate. (a basic salt) and the milky appearance disappears.
