LAW OF INDEPENDENT ASSORTMENT

  • It is based on F2 generation of dihybrid cross.
  • When two or more characters are studied simultaneously . Then , each character will inherit independentaly of another character in a next generation.
  • Independent assortment cannot be concluded from monohybrid cross.
  • Independent assortment is a conditional law.
  • When non-alleles are located on two different homologous chromosome . Then , only independent assortment occurs but if non-alleles are located on similar homologous chromosomes . Then , independent assortment will not occur.
